I Don't Like Golf

I don’t like golf.
(Don’t tell my golf league)
I have clubs.
I have a decent swing.
I smile politely when someone corrects my shot.
I find more enjoyment searching for balls in the lake. See photo!!
And yet, I still don’t “like” golf.
Or really any sport.
But here’s the thing…
I DO like my friends.
And my husband.
And my kids.
And literally EVERYONE in my life loves golf and/or sports!
I can’t count how many times I’ve put on a jersey just to fit in.
But loving your friends and family sometimes means entering their world—even when their world involves balls, sweat, and four hours of pretending to know what’s going on.
So, I golf because it matters to people I care about.
And I invite them into my world too.
Biking.
Food.
Wineries.
Lake days.
Entertaining.
Fountains. (Story for another day.)
Laughing about the things we’ve done when margs were involved.
(See previous line.)
That’s the beautiful part of this season.
We get to try new things—not because we have to become someone else, but because we’re still becoming.
Sometimes connection looks like joining a golf league on Wednesdays.
Sometimes it looks like getting tacos instead.
Either way, it’s saying:
“I’ll meet you in your world. Come check out mine.”
So, if your days are feeling a little too quiet…
Try something new.
Call a friend.
Say yes to an invitation.
Invite someone into your world.
And who knows?
Maybe someday I’ll actually like golf.
Until then…
there’s always a margarita waiting at the clubhouse.
What do you willingly participate in because you love your people?
